Adults (immediate-release): 5 mg for women, 5–10 mg for men at bedtime.

Elderly or debilitated: Usually 5 mg due to slower metabolism.

Extended-release (Ambien CR): 6.25 mg to 12.5 mg per night.

Important: Take right before bedtime and only when you can get 7–8 hours of sleep. Never exceed prescribed dose.

SIDE EFFECTS:

Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, headache, dry mouth.

Serious: Memory loss, hallucinations, depression, allergic reactions, complex sleep behaviors (sleepwalking, sleep-driving).

Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants. Use caution if pregnant, nursing, or driving.
